United Efforts for Rural Development

Karim Uddin was a small farmer in a rural area. He had a small pond near his house. But he did not know how to use it properly. UERD gave him training on fish farming. He also received some support and guidance. Karim started raising fish in his pond. He followed the methods he learned in training. After several months the fish grew well. He sold the fish in the local market. Karim earned good money from this business. Now he plans to expand his fish farming project.

Raju is a boy from a very poor family. His parents could not send him to school. He spent most of his time helping his father. UERD started a non-formal education center in his village. Raju joined the center and started learning. The teachers were very friendly and supportive. He learned reading, writing, and basic mathematics. Slowly he became very interested in education. Later he was admitted to a formal school. Now Raju studies regularly and dreams of becoming a teacher. Education changed his life and gave him hope for the future.

Salma Khatun lived in a poor family in the village. She had no job and depended on her husband. One day she joined a women development group of UERD. She received training on sewing and small business. After training she bought a sewing machine. She started making clothes for people in her village. Slowly her work became popular. Many women came to her for clothes. Her income started to increase every month. Now she helps her family financially. Salma feels proud and independent today.

Rahima Begum is a poor woman from a rural village. Her family had many financial problems. Her husband’s income was very small. Rahima joined a group of UERD in her village. She received a small micro-credit loan from the organization. With this money she started a small poultry farm. At first she had only a few chickens. After some months her farm started to grow. She sold eggs and chickens in the local market. Now her family income is better than before. Rahima can support her children’s education. She is now confident and respected in her community.
